Why We Built This Site
Michigan gives the public broad access to court records. The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The County Clerk serves as clerk of the 12th Circuit Court and keeps felony, larger civil, and divorce files along with the county's vital records. The 97th District Court, through its own clerk and magistrate office, handles misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, and landlord-tenant matters. The Probate and Family Court holds estates, guardianships, and juvenile cases. The Sheriff manages the jail roster and active warrants. Add the Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Corrections, and the Michigan Secretary of State for driver records, and the picture gets crowded fast. Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office, but the document has to come from them.
